First dengue vaccine is available now

The world’s first dengue vaccine is in production, and could be available in the second half of 2015, according to Sanofi Pasteur, a multinational company devoted to vaccines.It said in a statement that a second late-stage clinical study showed 95.5 percent protection against severe dengue and a reduction of hospitalisation risk by 80.3 percent.Sanofi Pasteur, which is the vaccines division of Sanofi, announced the detailed results of the final landmark Phase III clinical efficacy study in Latin America in The New England Journal of Medicine.

Pelekat magnet peti sejuk boleh sebabkan kanser?

Satu kajian daripada Universiti Princeton mendakwa pihaknya menemui kesan menakutkan apabila pelekat magnet peti sejuk boleh menyebabkan penyakit kanser.Laporan itu dikongsikan beberapa blogger serta fanpage terkenal yang mempunyai jutaan pengikut.Walaupun sudah lima bulan kajian itu dibuat namun sehingga semalam masih ada pemilik akaun Facebook berkongsikan perihal penemuan kajian tersebut. Sehingga kini lebih 6,000 pengikut laman Fanpage itu berkongsi laporan mengenai bahayanya pelekat magnet peti sejuk itu.

Isu caj perubatan tinggi pada pesakit dengan kad insurans

Kementerian Kesihatan akan berbincang dengan pihak berkaitan bagi menangani masalah caj perubatan yang tinggi bagi pesakit yang menggunakan kad insurans di pusat perubatan swasta, Dewan Rakyat diberitahu pada Isnin.Menteri Kesihatan, Datuk Seri Dr S Subramaniam berkata, ia termasuk perbincangan dengan agensi insurans, hospital swasta, organisasi jagaan yang diuruskan dan Bank Negara.Katanya, caj berlebihan itu tidak sepatutnya berlaku kerana kerajaan telah menetapkan had maksimum untuk fi profesional meliputi perundingan dan prosedur bagi pengamal perubatan swasta.

Viagra found to be a safe heart treatment!

LONDON: A daily dose of anti-impotency drug Viagra which improves blood flow could provide a “safe” treatment for heart disease, a new study has claimed.The study shows that long-term daily treatment of Viagra can provide protection for the heart at different stages of heart disease, with few side effects.Phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitor (PDE5i) is the main ingredient in Viagra and other drugs commonly used to treat erectile dysfunction. The inhibitor blocks the enzyme PDE5, which prevents relaxation of smooth muscle tissue.

Wabak Ebola kedua menular pula di tengah benua Afrika

Wabak Ebola kedua yang lebih kecil kini mula menular di Afrika dan kajian terbaru menunjukkan ia berpunca daripada sumber berlainan berbanding wabak lebih besar yang sedang melanda bahagian barat benua itu.Kajian genetik menunjukkan wabak Ebola kecil itu mula menular sejak Julai lalu di Republik Demokratik Congo dan ia adalah sama seperti yang berlaku di kawasan tengah Afrika.Sekurang-kurangnya 69 orang termasuk lapan kakitangan kesihatan dipercayai dijangkiti dan 49 sudah meninggal dunia.

Eggs sold in Malaysia are genuine

Eggs sold in the Malaysian markets are genuine and safe for consumption, says the Health Ministry.Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there was no cause for concern, adding that the video clips on the fake eggs that went viral on social media were untrue.“We conducted an investigation and found that there were no fake eggs sold in the markets,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Pelajar di Sarawak disahkan negatif Ebola

Pelajar warga Zimbabwe yang sebelum ini dikuarantin kerana disyaki dijangkiti virus Ebola hari ini disahkan negatif, demikian menurut Ketua Pengarah Kesihatan Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.Beliau berkata keputusan tersebut diperolehi melalui ujian makmal ke atas sampel klinikal pelajar itu yang telah dijalankan pada Selasa di Makmal Kesihatan Awam Kebangsaan (MKAK) Sungai Buloh dan mendapati ia negatif kepada virus Ebola.

African student in Kuching suspected of Ebola

KUCHING: A 24-year-old Zimbabwean student in Sarawak is being investigated after developing some Ebola symptoms.State Assistant Public Health Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil confirmed the patient reported himself to Kuching Specialist Centre on Saturday evening feeling feverish.”He told the hospital that he had been in contact with students from Nigeria and the private hospital took all necessary precautions.
