Sarawak won’t be getting the 20% oil royalty

Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem admitted, during a meeting with Orang Ulu community leaders here Tuesday night, that an impasse has been reached in negotiations with Petronas on hiking the present measly 5 per cent oil royalty to a respectable 20 per cent.“To break the deadlock, the Sarawak Government will work on alternatives,” said Adenan in virtually conceding that the 20 per cent demand is a non-starter with the national oil corporation.

JAKIM to call organiser ‘I want touch a dog’ and to deny other Muslim sects practices

The Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) will call the organiser of the programme “I want to touch a dog” to seek further clarification on the campaign.Its director-general Othman Mustapha said the campaign was conducted openly, including for Muslims, without a good reason.He feared that the organiser might have a hidden agenda and was trying to create a new culture that could lead to insulting Islam.

Viagra found to be a safe heart treatment!

LONDON: A daily dose of anti-impotency drug Viagra which improves blood flow could provide a “safe” treatment for heart disease, a new study has claimed.The study shows that long-term daily treatment of Viagra can provide protection for the heart at different stages of heart disease, with few side effects.Phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitor (PDE5i) is the main ingredient in Viagra and other drugs commonly used to treat erectile dysfunction. The inhibitor blocks the enzyme PDE5, which prevents relaxation of smooth muscle tissue.

American Airlines with 14 Malaysians returned after 45 minutes on air

NEW YORK: American Airlines flight AA 104 to London had to make a U-turn 45 minutes after taking off from the John F Kennedy Airport (JFK) here at 9pm on Saturday following a technical problem.Onboard the flight were RTM cameraman Mohamad Zamzy Othman and six members of the Malaysian media.In his text messages to Bernama through the Facebook Messenger system, Mohamad Zamzy said they were shocked when the captain informed them that there was a technical problem and that they had to return to JFK.

Malaysia has been elected as UN Security Council member

NEW YORK: Malaysia has returned to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) after a 15-year absence with an absolute victory.Of the 192 votes cast at the UN General Assembly here Thursday, 187 was in support of Malaysia’s unopposed candidacy to represent the Asia Pacific region.The results were a culmination of months of intense lobbying by Wisma Putra to clinch one of the five arising vacancies of the total 10 non-permanent seats.Malaysia had officially put in its bid for the seat soon after completing its last two-year UNSC term in 1999.

Zahid explained on why PPS is illegal

Penang’s volunteer patrol unit (PPS) is an illegal body because, unlike Rela, it was not formed under a law passed by Parliament, Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today.Zahid said the federal paramilitary civilian volunteer force Rela did not need to be registered with the Registrar of Societies (RoS) as it was set up under the Malaysia Volunteers Corps Act 2012.“Powers over defence and security lie with the federal government,” Zahid said during question time in Parliament here today.

Malaysia will not issue fatwa on jihadist

Malaysia will not issue any fatwa (edict) on the status of the conflict in Syria as it is unnecessary, says Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom.“It is clear that this (war and killing fellow Muslims) is prohibited.“There is no need for a fatwa on it,” he told reporters after witnessing the presentation of business zakat (tithes) by 10 cooperatives amounting to RM2.3mil to the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council here yesterday.

RapidPenang bus driver stabbed for not stopping

Angered that a RapidPenang bus did not stop where she wanted, a woman stabbed the driver several times before fleeing. The 27-year-old driver may now lose his leg.Apparently, the knife punctured the main vein on his right leg.Aisyamudin Yaacob, who only started work two months ago, was driving the bus uphill to Bukit Paya Terubong when the incident took place at about 6.50am yesterday.

Institut Rakyat Executive Director, Yin Shao Loong said the government’s move to increase petrol and diesel prices by 20 sen displays it’s ”wrongheaded approach to economic policy and national development.”He was of the opinion that ”any discussion of ‘fiscal rationalisation’ cannot close without mention of the inefficient and wasteful manner in which public monies have been spent by the BN (Barisan Nasional).’’
